Touring News

Two tour updates to give today. Well, one tour and one summer concert series.

First, Mates of State have announced possibly the coolest tour I’ve ever heard of. The tour is for the release of their upcoming covers album. The shows are going to play out more like a variety show, however. Included will be magic, contortionists, and much much more. The dynamic duo have two dates in New York (one at Music Hall of Williamsburg and one at Bowery Ballroom). Full list of dates can be found here.

Second, RXP have announced plans for their Summer Concert Series. The kickoff will be June 25th and features Silversun Pickups (fresh from opening for Muse) with Against Me! and The Henry Clay People. The concerts will all take place at the Williamsburg Waterfront. You don’t want to miss out, so get your tickets today.

Happy Birthday + News Roundup

Lots of music and television news to share today. But first…

A happy birthday shout-out to Robbie Coltrane. Coltrane is best known for his portrayal of Hagrid in theHarry Potter series, although he is in a number of other films as well. He turns 60 today.

Moving from movies to television, it has already spread pretty quickly that this is officially the last season of 24. There was talk about it moving to NBC, but that is definitely not happening. The movie is in the works though, and will likely follow chronologically the events of the current season.

And in music, RXP’s Experience Next presents: One Eskimo. This show is free to all and will be at Brooklyn Bowl on March 31.
Last, but certainly not least, MGMT‘s video for Flash Delirium is online for your viewing pleasure.

Bonus round:
For Doctor Who fans, here is an interview with Stephen Moffat.

The new season of Doctor Who premieres this weekend in the UK and April 17th in the US.

Muse Tours America

Muse has announced 6 shows of what will be their 2010 tour. For those who have been reading this blog since it’s conception, you may recall I have mentioned this band before. When they released their latest album (The Resistance), toured with U2, and had a special performance at the VMAs, I predicted they would slowly gain more exposure from this that would hopefully create enough buzz to bring them to the U.S. and it would seem I was right. The date for New York City is March 5th at Madison Square Garden. I hoped they would get big enough to play this venue, but I never imagined it would happen this quickly. Silversun Pickups is set to open for them. The show is brought to us by RXP and Bowery Presents. Thank you both for making the dreams of American Muse fans come true.

101.9 RXP Presents Matt Pinfield’s Holiday Extravaganza

Looks like z100 isn’t the only radio station planning a huge holiday concert this season. It may not feature nearly as many artists, but 101.9 RXP has announced their holdiay concert, which is scheduled for December 2nd. Details can be found on their website (or I’ve linked to it above). The line-up currently includes Phoenix, Passion Pit, Jack’s Mannequin, and Manchester Orchestra. Sounds like a decent night of music, if you ask me.

Save the Music

RXP posted a letter on their site in regards to a tax that would force them to make cutbacks in their music selection and staff. I know times are tough, but this is not the solution to any of our problems. This station has been giving me a reason to listen to the radio for the past year now. Please follow the title link and help keep the music alive.
